$50 to Fill Up My Honda s2000!

4:16 pm Driving, MPG

Here in California, 91 octane gasoline is flirting dangerously close with $5/gallon and today my fill-up cost a whopping $50.54! While there’s nothing I can really do about the price of fuel, my driving habits have a big effect on how efficient my mileage is. The problem is that the s2000 is too fun to drive hard, and I just can’t drive it efficiently. If i drive 65mph on the freeway and always keep my revs around 4k, I can get as much as 260 miles per tank. However, I very often shift near redline and drive 80-90mph on the freeway. Hard driving usually nets me only about 210 miles per tank, an almost 20% decrease in fuel efficiency. If gasoline prices go much higher, I might be forced to drive the car a little less hard, but if that happens, is there really any point in even keeping it?

Here in Portugal I need around 50 euros ($78) to fill-up, around 30 liters (8 gallons) because I never let it goes too low.

My S could run around 300km (186 miles) with 30 liters (8 gallons) in normal driving with some VTEC :)
